Unborn child to ‘testify’ on Ohio abortion bill
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A fetus has been scheduled as a legislative witness in Ohio on a unique bill that proposes outlawing abortions after the first heartbeat can be medically detected.
Faith2Action, the anti-abortion group that has targeted Ohio to pilot the measure, called the in-utero witness the youngest to ever come before the House Health Committee at 9 weeks old.
Faith2Action president Janet Folger Porter said the intent is to show lawmakers who will be affected by the bill, which abortion rights groups oppose. Ohio Right to Life has not endorsed the measure.
An aide to committee Chairman Lynn Wachtmann said a pregnant woman will be brought before the committee and an ultrasound image of her uterus will be projected onto a screen. The heartbeat of the fetus will be visible in color.
This is so ridiculous I don’t even know how to address it.
Does anyone else remember the short-lived sitcom That’s My Bush? I don’t know how it holds up as a whole now, but I do remember that in one episode, Bush had an important meeting with an anti-abortion organization. The head of the organization turned out to actually be an aborted fetus, who was really, really pissed off about being aborted.
That’s what this reminded me of.
Yeah, I thought of that too.
Seriously, though… what is this supposed to prove? That fetuses at a certain stage of development have beating hearts? Is anyone denying this?
Apparently a beating heart = humanity and therefore trumps the right of the mother?
How they are going to make sure the fetus is telling the Truth, The Whole Truth, and Nothing But The Truth? I wonder if you need to liquify the Bible and inject it into the amniotic sac? I wonder if the fetus knows it has to swear properly before we can accept its testimony? What if the fetus is atheist? Or gasp, Muslim?
I also wonder if they can get an interpreter for the fetus? Someone needs to translate from gurgle gurgle kick to the lingua franca of court. Does anyone even speak fetus? Do we have a Rosetta Stone course that I can download off the internet and teach myself fetus-speak?
I am terribly curious O Lawmakers of Ohio. Please to be enlightening this brownperson.
P.S. Are we going to be accepting testimony from sperm also? Stem cells? I must know.
